And Then There Were None: A Synopsis from An Actor
And Then There Were None, by Agatha Christie.
Pegasus’s fall production. The story can be a little confusing so this article is here to help fill you in on what you need to know.
The show is set in the 1940s, on Soldier Island in Devon, England. Eleven characters come together from all different backgrounds and ages.
First, you will meet Fred Narracott, Mr. Rogers, and Mrs. Rogers. Fred Narracott is the boatman, the island’s only connection to the mainland, without him, nobody will get to and from the island. The Rogers’ are the house staff, in charge of maintaining the house and attending to the partygoers.
Next, you will meet the bright faces of Philip Lombard, Vera Claythorne, Anthony Marston, and William Blore. Philip is a young, adventurous man who has come to Soldier Island in order to have some fun. Vera Claythorne is a dutiful young woman who fills the role of Secretary to the hostess.
Philip and Vera are the first guests to arrive as Philip has gone to lengths in order to isolate conversation with the lovely Vera who has piqued his interest.
Anthony Marston makes his entrance being his boisterous self and quickly takes a liking to Vera as well. William Blore is a bustling cop sent to the island to keep a watchful eye on all of the guests at the party.
Time passes and we are met with our old timers of the group, General Mackenzie, Emily Brent, and Sir Lawrence Wargrave. General Mackenzie is a retired war general, slowly losing his nerve. Emily Brent is an astute and proper religious woman who believes she is attending a high-class party. Sir Lawrence Wargrave, a respected judge, and a stone-like man, was invited by a friend.
To round out the guests, is Doctor Armstrong, a spectacular nerve specialist who’s nerves are all in a mess.
The traits of each character push and pull at each other. A constant fear and tension rests on the house as the days pass by, and fewer and fewer guests are present as the days go on.
Keep your eyes peeled and ears open, because you may just be able to figure out who the killer is. Or, perhaps you won’t, and it’s too late. There were all these characters, and then there were none…
