CBA Rugby wraps up the fall season in Union
After a long and difficult season, the varsity rugby team was dealt a crushing blow as they reached the finals of their last tournament in Union this past weekend. After going 3-1, they fell to Saint Augustine, who won the state trophy for the U19 group. The hard-fought tournament was led by Junior Christian Ard and Senior Christian DeChiaro in tries, while injured captain Andrew White led from the sidelines. Although this was not the result the team wanted, they took it in stride and look forward to getting revenge in the spring.
Overall, the Colts fell short of winning the state championship, a tournament, and suffered five losses during the year. However, there is hope for the future of CBA rugby as the spring season is looking to be exciting. The star players for the team all season were Andrew White, Christian Ard, and Christian DeChiaro, who will all be returning for their next campaign in a few months.
The U16 Colts also failed to capture the tournament after falling to Greenwich in the finals, going 3-1 in the tournament. With Captain Chris Ern sidelined due to an ankle sprain, the Colts rallied behind sophomores Quinn Evans, Ryder Lucich, and Mark Gilbert. Lucich was also one of the team leaders in tries on the day. Multiple injuries slowed down the team in the final match against Greenwich, but they still fought an uphill battle.
Regardless, the U16 Colts took home the State Championship with a final record of 18-2. A long season came to an end with a huge victory, as this is the sixth U16 State title in a row, and some of the top performers included Ern, Lucich, and Gilbert.
Another exciting season of CBA Rugby has come and gone, and the team looks forward to making a state title run in the spring.
