CBA Soccer Athlete Spotlight: Luke Pascarella ’20
When the calendar turns to November, it just seems to be CBA Soccer’s prime time.
Heading into the Non-Public A South sectional final on Thursday, the Colts are set to face rival St. Augustine Prep for a chance to reach the state title game.
Much of their success has been led by senior captain Luke Pascarella. Since scoring the golden goal in extra time of last year’s state final against Delbarton, Pascarella has showed no signs of slowing down. He leads the team with 17 goals on the year, and his leadership has been vital to the team’s success.
“My job is to be a role model for both the returning and new players on the team, and to be a trusted voice,” Pascarella said.
While the Colts lost in the Shore Conference semifinals to an upstart Manasquan team, they remain locked in towards reaching the state championship.
“We can either let [losses] break down our team or make us stronger, and we decided that it will make us stronger and not let it beat us up,” Pascarella said.
Pascarella has had plenty of help this year, particularly from underclassmen. He singled out junior midfielder Shane Borenius and back Jack Longo as future leaders of the team. Junior midfielder Brett Sieg was also the one to kick the Colts to the state semifinal.
Pascarella and the rest of the Colts will have a tough sectional final game at St. Augustine, the south bracket’s number one seed. The winner will play Pingry or Seton Hall Prep at Kean University for the state championship on Sunday.
Ahead of big games like this one, Pascarella turns to Romans 8:13, “if God is for us who could be against us.”
