CBA Surf: A Season Recap
After a long-awaited arrival, the Surf Club left the classroom and became a team on their home beach in Asbury Park. The inaugural season of the CBA Surf Team has been nothing short of exhilarating, filled with challenges, triumphs, and remarkable growth. As a brand new team, they aimed to not only master their surfing skills but also to build a strong sense of community and teamwork.
The CBA Surf Team is stacked with amazing coaches to help build skills. With focuses on film, competition strategy, and skill. The team engaged in regular afternoon sessions followed by occasional film reviews. Throughout the season, the team has shown remarkable improvement in both individual skills and team dynamics. The support from coaches and teammates has created an environment where team riders feel encouraged to push their limits.
The team encountered a challenging schedule against some of the strongest teams on the East Coast: Manasquan and Wall. While these were tough losses, the team grew stronger, becoming more experienced in and out of the water. Eventually, this led to their win over RFH in a great battle, with freshman star Dennis Hall taking CBA’s first-ever meet win in the Mens Shortboard.
Now in the postseason, the team prepares for the NSSA State Championship. The team’s strongest surfers led by captains Gabe Guinta and Jack Mayer will paddle out in Atlantic City this weekend. CBA will face some tough competition facing some of the best surfers on the shore, but there is no doubt they don’t put on a show. The upcoming state championship represents not just a chance to compete but also an opportunity to showcase how far they have come in such a short amount of time.
Looking ahead, the team is committed to not only enhancing their competitive edge but also fostering a strong community spirit. Plans for future fundraising initiatives will help secure resources for equipment and travel, while service projects will allow team members to give back to the local surf community.
