CBA XC Stays on Top, Soccer Undisputed Champions: A Fall Sports Recap

As the leaves begin to fall off the trees, and the weather gets increasingly colder and colder, the fall sports season slowly comes to an end. A rather successful season of sports for the CBA Colts were highlighted by significant wins by our cross country team and a championship run from our soccer team where they won the state title.

Soccer

Another magnificent season for the soccer team led by seniors Will Thygeson, Jack D’Elletto and junior Dylan Millevoi. CBA topped Seton Hall Prep in the Non-Public A State Championship grabbing their eighth state title. The boys lost their opener to Marlboro, but since then, they never turned back going 19-0 along the way beating top-ranked teams like Delran and St. Peter’s Prep. They also grabbed the Shore Conference Title in back-to-back years. They look to keep this momentum going into the 2023 season.

Cross Country

CBA’s cross country team led by Coach McCafferty captured their 25th NJSIAA All Groups Title. Also, they were able to grab their 31st team State Championship. They were led by senior Nick Sullivan and the super sophomore Joseph Barret, who came in first at the Non-Public A Championship. Barret broke CBA’s all-time sophomore record at Holmdel Park as well. The boys look to continue their season by qualifying for the Nike Nationals in December.

Crew

CBA Crew had a non-eventful fall season but worked hard on the boats. They competed in a couple of regattas, as well as finishing third at the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta competing against teams from, New York, Maryland, and Washington D.C. The boys will continue to work hard in the winter for a big spring season upcoming.

Rugby

A solid season led by Coach Pat Moroney. The boys rallied from behind, 12-0 against St Augustine in the CBA Sevens Tournament. They were able to come back  and narrowly defeat the Hermits in the final seconds of the match. In the State Tournament, the team had a good showing placing second in the state.

Sailing

CBA Sailing had a successful season winning multiple regattas and placing high at a couple of large events. CBA finished third in the league championship advancing to the district championship for the 5th straight season in a row. The Colts picked up wins in the six-week Fall Series for the third consecutive fall as well as winning the BBYRA invitational for the third time in a row.

With yet another successful fall season for CBA athletics, one could only look forward to what’s to come in the winter…
