Colts Basketball weathering up and down early schedule
After an extended layoff, CBA Basketball is looking to make some noise in the Shore Conference this year.
From the first tip against the Hun School, the Colts entered this season with a fearless attitude.
After a tough loss to prep power Hun, the Colts bounced back with two straight victories against Freehold Boro. In both games, senior guard Colin Farrell put up 20 points, emerging as a leader on this team.
The Colts do have a very well-rounded team in terms of perimeter guard play and the presence of a strong big man down low. Through the first few games, their tenacity on defense is clear and they do not shy away from physicality.
In the post, senior Dane Moran presents a strong body down low, as well as the smaller guys not afraid to get physical in the paint.
It is crucial for them to get their perimeter shooting to be more consistent. These Colts have had a tough time hitting three point shots early on, and it could continue to make or break games for them.
Their two losses come against two very talented groups in Hun and Ranney School. In both of these games, CBA jumped out to early leads, but their inability to hit outside shots plagued them.
When shots are not falling, it is not uncommon to change the game plan and rely more on getting into the paint and to the free throw line. They have done a good job getting to the line, but hitting threes consistently would certainly help the offense.
Farrell, Pat Lautato, and Mike White are all capable jump shooters and Moran does a phenomenal job getting physical in the paint. If they can threaten on the outside, CBA should be able to open space for Moran down low.
Still very early in the season, CBA has plenty of time to work out these issues, but it is a condensed season so the typical timeline for development is shorter.
They will take the court again on February 8 against Middletown South at home. All the action is streamed live on the CBA Digital Network at LetsGoColts.com/broadcasts.
