Colts Rolling into the Shore Conference Tournament

Colts Rolling into the Shore Conference Tournament

With the regular season ending, the Christian Brothers Academy varsity soccer team is prepared for the Shore Conference Tournament.

The Colts ended the season with an impressive 12-1 record, scoring 39 goals to only three goals allowed. CBA received the number one seed in the Shore, while ranked as the fourth-best team in the state by NJ.com.

Riding this momentum, the Colts will play Southern Regional High School in the second round of the Shore Conference after getting a first-round bye.

The Colts look impressive on both sides of the ball. A dynamic duo of Senior Max Kozan and junior Christian DeOliveira anchor the back, while a flying front three of Dylan Millevoi, Jack Deletto, and Will Thygeson.

Those three proved to be a dynamic forward force, scoring 21 goals between the three of them and propelling the team to the A-North division title. The team has also proven that they can win the big games, including an overtime win against Freehold Township in the pouring rain.

CBA will be looking to bring the Shore Conference title back to Lincroft for the second year in a row, but they will have to get by a strong Southern team first. In the later rounds, a rematch with division rivals Freehold Township looms.

Looking at the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Howell High School is looking to get to their first Shore Conference title game in a while, facing Manasquan in the second round.

A sleeper team in this tournament is Toms River East, a team that the Colts could face in the second round. In overtime, Toms River East beat their crosstown rivals Toms River North in the first round game. East has a strong front line that can cause problems for teams.

Of course, then there is Marlboro. In the very first game of the season, the Mustangs beat the Colts at CBA, showing that they will be a top team in the Shore. Marlboro is hoping to have a chance at a rematch against the Colts in the championship, but Marlboro’s route isn’t the easiest. The Mustangs have to get through the likes of Holmdel, which is a pesky but manageable matchup.

As the number one seed on a 12-game win streak, CBA enters the tournament as the sure favorites to win the title. They’ve proven that they can win in a variety of ways, including outlasting talented teams in overtime. Now, it is time to prove that the hype is warranted.
