Danny Dimes hits a purple brick wall
Daniel Jones has shown he is something special in his first two starts, combining for 561 passing yards and 5 total touchdowns (two rushing) in those games. Granted that these two games were against an average Tampa Bay Buccaneers and winless Washington Redskins, he still proved himself to be the starter of the team with great potential. In his third week as a starter, Jones faced a tough Minnesota Vikings defense that had 6 turnovers and 11 sacks going into the game.
This game was not pretty for the Giants and Daniel Jones. Kirk Cousins, who has been struggling all year, threw for over 300 yards and star running back Dalvin Cook had over 200 all-purpose yards against the Giants defense. The Vikings defense made Daniel Jones look like a rookie and shut him down pretty hard. Daniel Jones was held to 182 passing yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. This was by far Jones’ worst week as a Giant, but it is important to not put all the blame on him. The Giant’s offense line got obliterated this week as Daniel Jones was sacked 4 times and the offensive line allowed a safety before the end of the half. The Giants were also unable to put the ball in the end zone in the second half, turning the ball over on fourth down within yards from scoring multiple times.
It is important to take into consideration that Daniel Jones is a rookie and that this game was a learning experience for him. Also, note that all the games he has played were without star running back Saquon Barkley who could be returning this week from a high ankle sprain. Daniel Jones and the Giants look to bounce back Thursday night against an undefeated New England Patriots who have one of the best defenses in the league and of course Tom Brady.
