With CBA Rugby winning the fall sevens state championship for the first time since 2016, there are plenty of players that stand out for the CBA Digital Network’s Player of the Season.

Many of the seniors played big roles in winning that title, but the player that emerged from a talented pack is junior Fionn Moroney.

Moroney put together a very impressive season in just his second year on varsity. During the fall season, he made 19 tries in 20 matches. With his kicking game on point, he also managed to break the single season record with 183 points.

“It’s been a dream of mine since freshman year. I grew up around this program, so after seeing the success early in the program, this is great,” Moroney said about winning the state championship. In the final state tournament game, Moroney scored two tries helping the team win in a dominating fashion 31-12 over Union.

“Fionn is a very skillful player where he may lack in size he makes up for in skill, off the field he is a good and well rounded guy and is a friend of many around campus,” junior Jordan Young said.

During week three’s tournament at Union, Moroney turned in his best performance of the fall season. He had five tries and 12 conversions, which totaled 49 points across four matches as the Colts went undefeated on the day.

“He is a major part of our team and our playmaker,” Young continued. “We rely on him to get us those extra points in kicking and use his IQ to plan our team’s attack, he is also a great defender making many open field tackles throughout the season. The CBA rugby team would not be the same without him.”

With the fall sevens now over, the team sets its eyes on the spring 15s. The team is very eager for the start of the new season and looking to bring their winning dynamic from the fall.

“The chemistry we’ve built during this sevens season and throughout our three or four years here at CBA is just what’s going to lead us to our success and play our game,” Moroney said.
