Starts and Sits: Fantasy Football Week 2
With the start of the NFL season, Fantasy Football is now underway and with that comes a whole new set of challenges to consider week by week. This article begins the CBA Digital Network’s weekly starts and sits for the remainder of the Fantasy Football season. The players featured in the lists will be players that you may consider starting or are players that may not be the best to start. Without further ado, here are the NFL Week 2 start and sits.
Start: James Cook-RB-Bills
Cook had 12 carries which amassed 46 yards and 10.3 fantasy points against an elite Jets defense with a star-filled defensive line and secondary. Cook has immense fantasy value in the following weeks especially if the Bills look to cut down on Josh Allen’s turnovers by keeping the ball on the ground. Against the Jets, he was tied for second on the team in receptions with 4, and he was second on the team in targets with 6. This week he matches up against the Raiders, a team who last week allowed 94 rushing yards to the Broncos. Cook, the Bills, and their offensive line are better suited for this matchup than the Broncos and should find some success on the offensive side of the ball. All the more reason why Cook should be a starter this week.
Start: Jahmyr Gibbs-RB-Lions
Fantasy owners of Gibbs may want to bench him after a lackluster 8 point performance against the Chiefs in week 1. Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has said that the Lions will use him in ways people might not think of. Gibbs has a very unique skillset in that he is not only one of the leagues fastest backs but he has elite receiving ability for the position. Against the Chiefs in Week 1, his role was limited but he was the most explosive piece out of both offenses, and it wasn’t even close. This week he faces the Seahawks who have had an awful rushing defense the last few years. This could be a breakout game for the former first round pick. Once Gibbs gets the right amount of touches, he is going to be an exceptional fantasy back that owners would regret leaving on the bench.
Start: Giants D/ST-Giants
This week the Giants are facing off against the Arizona Cardinals making their defense our pick for week 2. It is possible that the Giants defense is still on the waivers in some leagues. This week they play a team that has no sense of direction, a lack of talent, and looks to be tanking for a better draft pick. The Giants should hold the Cardinals to very few or possibly no points and hopefully force turnovers now that journeyman Josh Dobbs is starting at quarterback. It will be a safe call to start whoever’s defense the Cardinals play this year and this week start the Giants.
Sit: Kendrick Bourne-WR-Patriots
Bourne is now the 5th leading receiver in fantasy points after week one after boasting a 24-point performance. While he saw a good amount of looks and touches, Bourne has not been a large part of the Patriots offense. The 2 touchdown catches he had last week are where half of his points came from. The Patriots tend to lean more on running backs and recently they have invested in the tight end position by adding Mike Gesicki to a tight end room that already featured Hunter Henry. The Dolphins (who the Patriots play this week) hired a decorated defensive coordinator in Vic Fangio and have star power throughout the entire defense. The Patriots offensive line is also banged up already and it’s only going to make the passing game worse. Bourne is going to have to compete with a multitude of Patriots pass catchers while also matching up with a strong defensive unit. Bourne will not keep up the production he showed last week, therefore he should not be a starter in your lineup.
Sit: Garrett Wilson-WR-Jets
Wilson was coming into the season as one of the most highly anticipated receivers with the addition of the future hall-of-fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately, Rodgers tore his achilles after playing just 4 snaps, so former second overall pick Zach Wilson was handed the reigns of the offense. After throwing an interception earlier in the game the Jets barely let Zach Wilson pass the ball outside of screens. This week the Jets face a ferocious Cowboys defense that decimated the Giants in week 1 and it looks to be a similar story coming up in week 2. The Jets will have to lean on the run game to limit Zach Wilson throwing the ball against an upper-echelon secondary and pass rush. This will drastically limit the ability to get Garrett Wilson the ball and if he does there is elite all over the Cowboys defense. It is shaping up to be a rough week for Garrett Wilson.
That wraps up the CBA Digital Network starts and sits for week 2 of the NFL season, stay tuned for more starts and sits every week of the regular season.
