Eleven CBA students from three different student media organizations traveled to Columbia University on Monday to take part in the 79th annual Columbia Scholastic Press Association Fall Conference.

While at the Manhattan campus, the CBA students took part in sessions throughout the day, spanning journalistic writing, design, video and more. The conference featured decorated guest speakers, including professional journalists from the New York Times, executives from regional media organizations, and longtime Columbia communications professors. Several sessions touched on hot topics in today’s media world, such as the so-called “fake news” reporting, telling stories through visuals, and how advertisements keep publications afloat.

The CBA group was comprised of members of the Academy Torch newspaper, the Arister literary magazine, and the CBA Digital Network broadcasting group.  They were accompanied by student media advisors Ms. Morgan Biloholowski and Mr. Jason Lutz.

This was the fourth consecutive year that CBA has sent students and advisors to the Columbia conference. Each year, the students are tasked with bringing back a handful of ideas to implement into Academy student media.
