CBA Surf: A New Addition to the Academy
Students at Christian Brothers Academy are thrilled about the addition of a surf team this year.
For the past few years, CBA Surf Club has offered students a great chance to participate in a more casual setting. But this year is monumental because the surf club is becoming an official team.
As a sophomore at CBA who was a part of the surf club previously, I am extremely excited about the change and cannot wait to start competing against other schools.
For the first time in the school’s history, the surf team will have the chance to participate in high school surf contests. The surf team’s first meet is set to be against Manasquan High School on Friday, September 20. The forecast projects that the wave conditions will be exceptional for surfers. While the competition’s precise dates are still pending, the team’s first competition will mark an important milestone in the history of CBA Surfing.
Head Coach Steve Skribner, along with his skilled assistant coaches, are here to help and guide us through this new season. One of our assistant coaches, Paul Fransisco, was skilled enough to surf in the Belmar Pro competition this year. While Fransisco got knocked out in the second round, his performance was still very impressive.
There are about 25 excited members on the roster of CBA Surf this year, all of which are ready to start the new season. As we prepare for our first competitive season, there is a great sense of brotherhood among the team. The creation of the surf team provides proof of CBA’s effort to increase its athletic offerings, even if the school isn’t directly located on the ocean like other Monmouth and Ocean County schools are. The move to add a surf team is a perfect example of how CBA promotes new opportunities.
Overall, as a member of the surf team, I am extremely excited to get started and be a part of this team, one that will hopefully lead to strong bonds, new opportunities, and good times on the water.
