The Final Dawn: Election Day
This election season seems to have brought a rollercoaster of emotions for Americans across the country. There have certainly been highs and lows for both presidential candidates, but with Election Day upon us, where do we stand?
Nearly all polls point to a clear victory for former Vice President Joe Biden. CNN, Fox News and ABC polls all have Biden leading in the overall election standings. Most others have him as the favorite to win with anywhere between a 6 and 10 point margin for the popular vote. If the polls are at least an indication of what is to come on Election Day, it should be a clear cut victory for Biden.
On the other hand, the Trump campaign will not abandon all hope, as the President has been on the trail with a heavy push-back message against Biden. On Monday alone, the President had five events scheduled in key states. It’s very obvious that he hopes to mirror his upset 2016 victory, where the poll numbers were VERY similar. Oddly enough, he plans to conclude his re-election campaign in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he held his last event in the 2016 election.
Everyone can speculate about the popular vote all they want, but as we have learned in 2016, the Electoral College ultimately will decide our president. Clearly, the swing states are going to be the most important in this election. Trump, who did the unbelievable by sweeping these states in the last election, has to once again sweep the swing states to win. With most polls indicating that Biden holds a lead in Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and a slim margin in Pennsylvania, Trump is once again facing a tall task.
The current CNN polls have Joe Biden favored with a 290 to 163 lead over Trump (85 battleground votes), and with early voting nearing 100 million votes, it is safe to assume that this election will have a far larger turnout than the previous one. Fox estimated a voter turnout of 160 million Americans, far surpassing the near 135 million in 2016.
Ultimately, this election most likely will not be decided on Election Night, rather much later and we may not see a result for days. Regardless of who wins, it is important that whoever is going to take the seat within the Oval Office attempts to reach across the aisle of Democrats and Republicans. For far too long, our nation has been torn apart by partisan policies and partisan politics.
It is time that the President steps in to assure a better future for Americans, and that can only be done by working together.
