Who will get one of the coveted four spots?
The college football is in full swing and the drama could not get higher.
Multiple teams have largely been mentioned for one of the coveted four spots in the College Football Playoff. Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and Oklahoma are common names when talking about the Playoff.
Things could get quite interesting down the stretch with the SEC championship being a big factor. Georgia and Alabama could end up being in the game. This would make one of them a one loss team. Will that one team still make the field of four? That depends on a lot of factors.
Lots of teams in the SEC have been making a push. Florida has beaten Auburn, another top ten team. Also LSU has been having a good year ranking number 5 in this week’s AP poll. Florida has beaten Auburn, another top ten team. The Gators, still being undefeated, will have a big game against Georgia coming up. LSU has been having a good year ranking number 5 in this week’s AP poll, with a big win at home against Texas. This upcoming week they will be playing number 7 Florida. The Tigers also have to take on Alabama on 11/9. Georgia is also back on top of the conference following a big win at home against Notre Dame. Whoever comes out of the SEC will surely make the playoff, and maybe even the runner-up.
The ACC this year has mostly been Clemson. The ACC is weaker this year than they have been in past years, but the reigning National Champion Clemson still sits atop the conference. Though Clemson did have a tough time against UNC, just edging them out by one point, but that should not hurt Clemson’s chances.
In the Big Ten, Ohio State, lead by Georgia transfer Justin Fields, is tearing it up. Penn State is undefeated and ranked at number 10. They will have to play Ohio State coming up. Wrapping up the Big Ten is the current number 8, Wisconsin. The Badgers have been on fire lately with Heisman Trophy candidate running back Jonathan Taylor, but will have to take on Ohio state in a much anticipated game later this season.
Notre Dame is having a solid year so far, however they did have a big loss to Georgia on the road. The committee has been biased against Notre Dame as of late. They added in a rule in terms of getting into the playoffs, where one of the biggest point of getting into the Playoff is winning your respective conference. This hurts Notre Dame’s chances because they are not in a conference and do not play in a conference schedule, and that they already have one loss does not help them.
In the BIG 12, Oklahoma has been having a great year. They are lead by ‘X-factor’ QB Jalen Hurts. It will be interesting to see how Jalen performs against Texas, who was their only regular season loss last year.
Now onto the predictions. At number one will be Alabama. Playing Alabama, at number 4, will be Ohio State. Number 2 will be Clemson, who should win the ACC championship. Playing Clemson at number three will be Georgia. LSU and Oklahoma will be on the outside looking in at 5 and 6.
Notre Dame is number 7 being a one loss team based on their weaker schedule. The committee values the conference championship and Notre Dame does not play in one. I also predict that it will be a rematch between Alabama and Georgia, with the winner being Georgia, who would be getting their revenge on Alabama.
But, anything can happen in college football, which is why this time of the season is one of the most exciting.
