Worlds 2021: The Grand Finals
With the semifinals taking place this past weekend, the world witnessed as Damwon KIA was able to once again defeat Faker and T1. As well as the sole Chinese representative of EDG taking down Gen.G to reach their first-ever Grand Final.
Firstly on Saturday, Damwon versus T1 went to five games, with T1 even having a 2-1 series lead at one point. Faker was searching for a return to the grand finals for the first time in five years, but Damwon’s Jungler, Canyon, once again slammed the door shut in his face. Damwon defeated T1 three games to two. Damwon now has the opportunity to directly create a new dynasty in competitive League of Legends if they are to win the finals once again.
Following up on Sunday, EDG trailed Gen.G 1-2. Then, Viper and Scout’s outstanding performances allowed EDG to claw their ways back into game four, forcing a game five. They were able to defeat Gen.G three to two. This is EDG’s first finals appearance, despite domestic success for years now.
Finals Preview
Damwon is the clear favorite in this matchup, but my crystal ball pick is still EDG. I picked them all the way back in September, and I’ll stand by that pick. I believe EDG will upset Damwon, 3-2. The key to winning this game lies within the Jungle and Mid combination; if Scout and JieJie can roam more than Showmaker and Canyon, I think EDG has a shot.
The finals will be live this Saturday, November 7th, at 8 AM EST.
