An October must-watch: Hubie Halloween

An October must-watch: Hubie Halloween

The comedy blockbuster is a piece of art that has been lost throughout history.

Less people going to the movies means smaller budgets, as well as emphasis on action blockbusters like Fast and Furious and Transformers.

Another piece of cinema that has gone by the wayside is the well-produced seasonal movie. Sure there are boatloads of Christmas movies that are released every year, but when it comes to other seasons, there are not so many. Hubie Halloween gives the seasonal comedy new meaning with Adam Sandler’s new Netflix project.

The movie is set in the Halloween capital of the country, Salem, Massachusetts. It’s a town that embraces Halloween and frequently picks on Sandler’s character, Hubie Dubois. Hubie comes off very nice and caring for everyone he interacts with. The community wants to push aside Hubie’s quest for everyone to have a safe Halloween. And with that comes plenty hijinx on the night of October 31st.

While this Netflix original could be seen as “bad on purpose” in some parts, this movie is perhaps the most enjoyable one that I have seen come out this year. The star studded cast, including Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Maya Rudolph, and even Shaq, gives off the feel of Sandler and his famous friends having fun making a bad movie. That excitement really comes across well to the viewer.

The main characters, and even stars who simply have cameos, make this movie one of the most stacked comedy casts seen on screen in a long time, a Saturday Night Live reunion so to say.

Hubie Halloween comes with just the right amount of silliness that everyone needs in 2020. It’ll be a Halloween essential for years to come.
