Back In The Pool: AquaColts Kick Off 2021-22 Campaign
On Thursday, December 2, the AquaColts defeated Marlboro 122-48 in their first meet of the year. The meet featured great swims from all different grade levels.
The Colts began the meet by winning the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, and 50 free. Senior Nick Scaturo led the way in the pre-break events, anchoring the medley relay and winning the 50 free. It was a big upset and got the boys loud for the second half of the meet.
After the break, the Colts continued to dominate, taking the 100 fly, 100 free, 500 free, and 200 freestyle relay. Junior Luke Condon led the way in the 100 fly, with Sophomore Nick Volkov and Juniors Conor Doogan and Noah Kuzloski going one, two, and three in the 100 free.
The boys finished the meet off strong, taking first in two of the next three events. After such an eye-opening first meet with lots of fast swims, I spoke with second year head coach Alex Fitton about his first non-COVID season win.
“It was awesome to get this under out belt,” said Fitton. “I think this year we’re going to be a lot faster than a lot of people think. We had some really fast swims tonight, so there’s so much to build off of. I’m excited to get this thing going.”
The AquaColts have their fair share of tough meets this season. On December 21, the swim team travels to South Jersey to swim Cherry Hill East, one of the premier swim teams in the state. Shortly after Monmouth Counties on January 8, the team swims Westfield and LaSalle in a one-week time span. These meets will be a true test for the Colts, but there’s nothing that they can’t handle.
The Shore Conference meet will be at the end of January, with the state tournament to commence shortly after. It’s going to be a very exciting year for the AquaColts. The team has great depth and it should carry them a long way.
The AquaColts’ next meet will be against Howell on Tuesday, December 7, with a 6 p.m. start time.
