Hand-in-Hand: The Team of Pegasus and CBA Music
CBA’s Pegasus Production Company is not a stand-alone act. Pegasus frequently works hand-in-hand with CBA’s storied Music Department.
Most recently, Pegasus and CBA Music worked together at CBA’s most recent open house. Both organizations designed the theater in ways to complement each other, such as using a television to play recordings of Pegasus’ musicals, and the Music Department’s concerts.
Pegasus utilized the stage to run through the scripted movement and lines for their upcoming fall production, And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. On the other hand, The Music Department used the theater lobby to showcase some of the pieces they have been practicing throughout the first month of school.
Many members of Pegasus Production Company also are members of the Music Department. Everyone can find their place in either the Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo Band, Choir, or even Rock Band. For the yearly Winter and Spring Concerts, many crew members work with the Music Department to provide lighting, sound, and the organization of the event.
One example of overlap between the two departments was the trip to Nashville last year. It was truly eye opening to see that it is possible to make a career out of one of my passions: music. We saw some great music acts on the trip, as well as got to play a little music on our own. Even with the 18 hour bus ride both ways, the two departments bonded throughout the whole adventure to Music City.
Another great example of collaboration was Pegasus’ Spring Musical last year, Godspell. Throughout Godspell, we had a fantastic time with the Music Department, who made up the pit band.
“The Pit Band along with the cast put on a great musical, that featured many memorable music numbers,” said Chris Heite ’24, who saw the play multiple times. “The music element of the performance really added to the overall electric atmosphere.”
The head of the Music Department, Mr. Christian Lopez, is also the Music Director for the Pegasus Spring Musicals. Lopez believes in keeping everything student-run, so the pit band for the musicals is entirely made up of students from the Music Department. Pegasus Production Company and the CBA Music Department have found ways to intertwine and flow together in order to allow their students to participate seamlessly in both at the same time.
As Pegasus grows, so does the Music Department. As PR Director of Pegasus as well as a member of the CBA Music Department, I personally look forward to all the future collaborations between the two storied organizations.
