My Final BOSMUN

My Final BOSMUN

After arriving at Christian Brothers Academy in 2018, I was overwhelmed by the number of clubs and opportunities presented to me. As a freshman, I had no clue what I wanted to do or what I was interested in. So, as is customary in the academy, a senior came up to me in told me to go to “Model United Nations.”

It’s fair to say it was my best choice while being here.

This club means the world to me; these past four years of conferences and moments have been the best time during my high school career. When I approached this past weekend, it was different, and it had many more feelings behind it. On the one hand, I was happy to go to Boston again and spend time with my friends. On the other, this was likely my last conference.

On Wednesday, we departed school, twenty-two students, broken down into fourteen seniors, five juniors, two sophomores, and one freshman. Dr. Gustavsen and Mr. Reagan brought us, Dr. Gus being the proctor of the club, and Mr. Reagan always being a joyful addition.

On Wednesday, we attended a Celtics game (which they won) and got dinner at my favorite burger place in the world, Tasty Burger. Put an egg on my burger, and I am in Heaven.

Thursday was all-around fun; we visited one of the oldest churches in the country, “The Old North Church,” famous for being the home of Paul Revere’s lantern during his midnight rides. We explored the church, which contained many old and historical artifacts, the most exciting part had to be the crypt underneath the church. We learned cryptic information about those buried here and their importance to the church.

This was followed by a trip to Faneuil Hall, where I enjoyed my favorite Boston clam chowder in a bread bowl and burnt all of my tastebuds off at the hot sauce store. Our day concluded with a trip to a Swedish escape room called “Boda Borg.” Boda Borg featured twenty different rooms, with varying difficulties and varying levels of physicality or mental ability involved. Though we only solved about three rooms, I couldn’t stop laughing the whole way through.

The conference kicked off on Friday; I felt overwhelmed at first when entering my committee. Though this was my fifth total conference, this felt different; it was the first in-person conference in two years. Though I struggled at first, I powered through the weekend and got close to claiming an award.

Sunday was the end of our trip, and it began with the awards ceremony. CBA as a whole claimed four awards, nearly the amount that we had received cumulatively up until this conference. Daniel Mooney ’22, Stephen Willis ’22, Evan Lustig ’23, and John Hogan ’23 claimed awards. We celebrated in CBA fashion by screaming and jumping up and down.

Though this was likely the last conference I will participate in, CBA Model United Nations has given me the best times of my four years at the academy. The best moments from these conferences were when I spent time with my friends. Gianluca Scardino ’22, Daniel Francis ’22, and I attended all three in-person BOSMUNs, and many others participated at the last two with us. Thank you to all my friends who gave memories that I will look back upon fondly.

A special thank you to Dr. Gus; you have allowed me and everyone in this club to have unique experiences that we will cherish for the rest of our lives.

Motion to close debate.

This clearly passes.
