Network Legends: Origins of the CBA Digital Network

Network Legends: Origins of the CBA Digital Network

February 11, 2017

Mr. Jason Lutz, the future leader of the CBA Digital Network, entered the historic CBA Varsity Gym. CBA basketball was the game of the day. It was a special game though, the battle for the Founder’s Cup: CBA vs RBC, one of the biggest rivalries in the Shore Conference.

It was certainly a historic day in CBA history as it was the first regular-season matchup against RBC in 35 years. That may have been the big news of the day but it was a bigger day for the future of the Academy. The CBA Digital Network went live for the first time in its history.

Every year the network gets bigger and bigger, with a growing number of underclassmen joining the club. Even though the CBADN is only a few years old, there are vital figures that are a part of its history.

Jack Coleman, Aidan Broderick, Gerald Sharpe, and Jack Butterfield are a few of the notable last names known by all members of the network, mainly for their early contributions to the club itself. But there is one name that is more known than the rest. Mr. Jason Lutz.

The Beginning:

There was an idea to live-stream the CBA sporting events for all fans who could not attend. That idea was formulated by both Mr. Lutz, and the athletics director back in 2017, Mr. Vito Chiaravalloti.

That idea eventually became reality, when the Digital Network was launched at that historic RBC game. The first season of broadcasting was a success and there were many more great seasons to come.

A few years after the initial launch, the student media website was built. The purpose of the website is for students to write articles and produce video segments that eventually get posted and advertised on the CBADN Twitter page. Essentially, it’s a news source for the CBA community.

Through the student media webpage, the Academy has a new way of looking back at its history. Many students have written about iconic aspects of CBA culture, from the big athletic wins to the story of the Colt Crazies. The network only continues to develop each year with more diverse content for everyone to experience some form of the CBA experience.

In this new series, Network Legends, we will be diving into the rich history of the CBA Digital Network and we will talk to some of its most iconic figures. CBADN journalists, for the most part, have gone on to do big things in college and we’ll learn about their experiences in the CBADN and how it helped them in the future. Stay tuned…
