Phil Murphy Holds Lead With Two Months To Go

Governor Phil Murphy seems to have a firm grasp on the New Jersey gubernatorial election. Can Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli find a way to break through the democratic stronghold?

Polling says no, as Murphy has a firm lead with +16.0 according to Monmouth and a +26.0 according to Rutgers.

Murphy has been overwhelming popular with his handling of the pandemic, and the polling shows that New Jersey voters would even support him with stronger regulations.

The only issue going against Murphy seems to be the overall unpopularity of President Biden, which could have an effect on democrats coming into 2021. Ciattarelli will need to rely on this and more if he wants to have a chance in the coming election.

Ciattarelli looks to gain the support of voters who feel fed up with the poor economic state of New Jersey. He is attempting to generate support by campaigning on lowering taxes, while he has also been the candidate for New Jersey residents who are tired of Murphy’s handling of COVID.

By far the most important task for Ciattarelli would be winning over the large amount of independent voters in New Jersey. Independent voters make up 37% of eligible voters, far more than the 22% of registered republicans.

Will Murphy get his second term? Or will Ciattarelli be able to reclaim New Jersey for republicans for the first time since 2013? We’ll find out as we get closer and closer to the 2021 gubernatorial election.
