Proodian Column: Soccer on the Cusp

There are no other words to describe the season that this CBA soccer team is having other than “remarkable.”

These boys are now on an 18-game win streak with the Non-Public A south sectional final on Wednesday at home.

This team did not only just win the Shore Conference Tournament, but they are literally two games away from winning the Non-Public A state title and being ranked number one in the state of News Jersey. But how did they get this far?

Starting with the semifinals of the Shore Conference, the boys beat Middletown North 2-1 with an unreal game winning goal by Jack D’Eletto in the final minute. The support and energy from the Colt Crazies was unbelievable. One hundred-plus Crazies wearing pink all going ballistic for the boys in blue was a sight to see. As D’Eletto scored a beautiful upper 90 goal in the final minute of the game, it felt like the bleachers were going to collapse from the Crazies. Everyone jumping up and down, screaming, and knowing the boys are moving on to the Shore final made this a game to remember.

Boy, oh boy, you did not want to miss the Shore Conference Final game.

With at least 200 Crazies in costumes, they were getting rowdier then ever for the boys in blue. Scooby Doo, Spiderman, Mickey Mouse, and so many more costumes worn by the Colt Crazies made this game even more special. It was a sight to see. Once that first and second goal by the Colts hit the back of the net, it was hard to hear what everyone was saying because the Crazies were so loud. They never stopped screaming and never lost the energetic spirit that the Colt Crazies are known for throughout the whole 80 minutes of the game.

As the boys beat Howell 2-1, the Crazies crowded the fence as all of the boys from the soccer team jumped into their arms celebrating with them. That’s the brotherhood CBA is known for. The Crazies didn’t just leave after the game to beat the traffic. They knew how special this moment was for the team, which is why the stayed to celebrate with their boys. That’s what makes the Colt Crazies so special.

So what happens after this? The biggest tournament in the state is what happens next for the Colts: the Non-Public A Tournament.

With a north and south bracket of the tournament, CBA is competing in the south bracket as the number one seed. The boys cruised through the second round of the tournament, after getting a bye in round one, beating SJV 4-0 and moved on to play Pingry in the sectional semifinals. The Colts played their hearts out and beat a very competitive Pingry team 2-0 as they now move on to play Saint Peter’s Prep in the Non-Public A south sectional final on Wednesday.

This game will have the largest Colt Crazies attendance in CBA history. Yes, no joke. The CBA administration is allowing the whole student body to leave school early to go to this game at 2 p.m. There will also be a white dress down day, so every single kid will be going from school to the field without having to change… because the theme of the game is a whiteout. There are no words to describe how packed this game will be. Don’t be surprised to see 800 kids in white all-around Keane Field.

The biggest game of the year for the soccer team. The biggest Colt Crazies attendance in the history of the school. What happens if the boys win this game? They play in the state final game against the winner of the north bracket. But one game at a time. All that matters is Wednesday right now. Be prepared to witness history.
