Reasons to be thankful during the 2020 holiday season

The ramp-up for the holidays – and all the craziness that ensues – is here. The Thanksgiving holiday felt different given the current circumstances, which begs the question: how are we to be thankful in a year that has been tough on all of us?

Since our initial shutdown in March, the school year has been unlike any other, and for the student body, time is ticking away. The upperclassmen are losing vital time in their final years at CBA, which are supposed to be remembered for the good memories, not the socially-distant and masked memories.

But as we enter the holiday season, it’s important to remember that we have so much to be thankful for here at CBA, especially this year.

For starters, we have been back in school for a majority of the fall. Despite the masks and distance, we are together, all students and faculty, as one CBA body. We are taking on this 2020 year together and doing all we can to make this year a little better. Virtual school has some benefits, such as sleeping in late and not leaving your room all day, but it can’t replicate what it is like to be in the building every day.

We see our friends together throughout the day and we are able to participate in extracurriculars and sports after school. Being at school is more than just learning in a classroom, it’s about being in a friendly environment where we can enjoy ourselves and get out of the house. And getting out of your bedroom is a good thing, seeing as we all spent multiple months with nowhere to go.

During this time of year, we should look to those around us and the gifts we have been given which we often take for granted.

We are thankful for the teachers and administrators who have been doing everything in their power to make school better for CBA students. Learning new technology and dealing with constant schedule changes isn’t easy, but we are thankful and fortunate enough to learn from those who want to help.

As much as technology has its flaws, it is also important to recognize all the technology that goes into keeping CBA active whether in school or at home. We are lucky to be able to have the ability to stream classes from home and stay paperless with the use of personal laptops, both of which helps prevent spreading germs and keep us in school. Not all schools around the country are able to function properly, while also maintaining safety precautions with the virus. At CBA, we are fortunate to have so many options to stay connected.

It’s all about keeping it in perspective this holiday season, and as we gear up for Christmas, it is important to recognize that we still have a lot going for us here at the Academy.
