Step Into An Actors Shoes: Tech Week

Step Into An Actors Shoes: Tech Week

Workin’ 9 to 5! Well, really 3 to 10. This is what a regular Pegasus Tech Week looks like, long rehearsals leading up to opening night. But, what is the process? What is really going on during these Tech Week rehearsals?

Well, I am going to fill you in, here is a Tech Week rehearsal through the eyes of a Pegasus Performer.

2:30 pm; enter the theater and head straight to the whiteboard at the front of the stage. On this whiteboard, you will find everything that needs to be completed before dinner. Head straight to the dressing room to confirm that all of your costume pieces are looking good and that all your props are in their proper place. This can include ironing your dress shirt and pants, re-tying your ties, or simply looking at the sequence of costume changes.

3:00 pm; everyone gathers in the theater to hear Mr. Orozco’s announcements for the day. Depending on the day before, receive your notes from the previous rehearsal.

3:15 pm; begin fixing the scene specified on the whiteboard earlier. This time is very important as you must implement these changes to later runs. If you are not in a scene that is being run, still pay close attention, and know the story like the back of your hand.

4:30 pm; set up for dinner provided by the wonderful Pegasus parents. Depending on the room, this could include wiping down tables, taking out chairs, or simply prepping the food to be served to the rest of the company.

5:15 pm; finish up your dinner and head back to the dressing rooms. Put on your undershirt, mic belt, and Act 1 pants. Once you have these three pieces on, head to the makeup table so the art team can put on your makeup and style your hair. Once your hair and makeup is done, head to the sound booth to get your microphone on. Then, head back to the dressing room to finish putting on your Act 1 costume.

5:45 pm; get on stage and line up for mic check. Stand silently so the sound team can properly balance everyone’s microphones. Once you are balanced, head to the costume room to double-check your outfit, hair, and makeup. After that, head to either the green room or music hall to get into character.

6:15 pm; get into places and prepare to begin the show.

8:30 pm; Wrap up the show! Put all your costumes, props, and microphone away. Clean up the dressing room and head out into the theater to debrief the night. Depending on time you may receive notes now, but this does not always happen.

9:15 pm; make your way home, and rest up for the same thing tomorrow!

With opening weekend in the books, please don’t miss your last chance to see And Then There Were None, this Thursday (5 PM), Friday (7 PM) and Saturday (7 PM)!
