The Legend and The Sensation: Brady vs. Mahomes

The Legend and The Sensation: Brady vs. Mahomes

Well, it’s that time of year again.

We are entering the dead of winter and have reached the end of another NFL season. This year has most certainly been one of the most unique in NFL history, with COVID changing the trajectory of the season. It is actually remarkable how the NFL actually pulled off playing an entire season during the pandemic.

Now that we have indeed reached the end, we have a Super Bowl that many thought could happen: Buccaneers vs. Chiefs.

When analyzing this game, there is a clear point of emphasis: the two polarizing quarterbacks.

Patrick Mahomes is the undisputed best player in the NFL. In three seasons, Mahomes has made the AFC Championship each year, advanced to the Super Bowl twice, and won last year’s Super Bowl. He was named the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2018.

Mahomes led Kansas City to a spectacular 15-1 record this season. The scariest part about the Chiefs this year is that they are actually better this year than they were one year ago. Mahomes has been on a complete tear, and sometimes, it looks like he isn’t even trying.

Everything seems to come so effortlessly to Mahomes, so an AFC Championship stat line of 325 yards and three touchdowns almost seemed like a pedestrian game.

Perhaps the stat that has left people the most speechless is the fact that Mahomes has never lost an NFL game by more than one score (eight points or less).

On the other hand, the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is pretty good as well: Tom Brady. Ever heard of him? Six-time Super Bowl winner… and frequent participant in the world’s biggest game.

Brady packed his bags and moved on from the New England Patriots, needing to learn an entirely new offense with a new coach, and new set of teammates, but here he is back in the Super Bowl.

It’s hard to describe how incredible the career of Brady has been, and it never seems like it will end. Though he has not played his best football in the playoffs, throwing three interceptions in the NFC Championship, he continues to find ways to win. With a Buccaneers team loaded with offensive weapons and a solid running game, it seems possible that Brady could win a seventh Super Bowl.

So who will earn the Lombardi Trophy in this matchup of a true legend and the league’s sensation?

Yes, the Chiefs are better…a lot better actually. They are so dominant offensively that their lackluster defense doesn’t even seem to be a problem. On paper, the Chiefs have every advantage going into this Super Bowl matchup; however, something just tells us that Tom Brady isn’t going to lose. The Super Bowl will end with Tom Brady hoisting his seventh Lombardi, and making it very, very clear that he is the G.O.A.T: Greatest Football Player of All-Time.
