We might hear Sinatra at this year’s World Series

“Murderers Row” is a name known not just to baseball faithful in the Bronx, but throughout the entire country. “Murderers Row” featured two all-time greats, Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth.

It seems that the New York Yankees may have to use the term “Murderers Row” again. Their hitting is that good.

The Yankees went 33-27 in this year’s abbreviated regular season, putting them in the Wild Card Series against the Cleveland Indians. The Yankees’ bats showed up, as they scored a combined 22 runs in the two game sweep of the Indians.

Last offseason, the Yankees acquired all-star pitcher Gerrit Cole to give them a “go-to” starter in the postseason. He posted a 7-3 record with a 2.84 ERA, making for a pretty good Yankee debut season. With Cole anchoring the staff, along with returning postseason pitching hero Masahiro Tanaka, the Yankees are solid at the frontend of their rotation. They still have three relief pitchers who are highly reliable – Chad Green, Zach Britton and Aroldis Chapman – to take the ball from Cole or Tanaka.

Last year’s season ended with a pitch thrown by Chapman that ended up in the stands, a walkoff homer by the Astros’ Jose Altuve in the ALCS. With star pitchers and a lineup to scare any opposing team, the Yankees are set up to get to the World Series.

Although the Yankees had several injuries in the regular season, it seems that only the pitchers had devastating, season-ending injuries. The Yankees have sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton back, which makes a huge difference. While having Judge and Stanton back is key, the clutch hitters of the entire 2020 season have been Luke Voit and DJ LeMahieu, who won the home run and battling titles respectively.

If Judge and Stanton can add to Voit and LeMahieu’s hitting, we could be in for some of Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” at the World Series.

With Cole on the mound, the Yankees continue the quest for their 28th World Series championship tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS.
